Sacred Medicines

The medicines we work with at Lōkahi Sanctuary are not substances. They are teachers. They are allies. They are ancient, living intelligences that have been guiding human beings toward healing and wholeness for centuries. We approach each one with the reverence, preparation, and respect they deserve.

Ayahuasca

The Sacred Vine of Deep Inner Transformation

Used by indigenous tribes in the Amazon basin, ayahuasca is a brew made from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and the Psychotria viridis leaf. This sacred brew is used in religious ceremonies and healing rituals to gain spiritual insight, connect with the spirit world, and heal physical, mental, and spiritual ailments.

Ayahuasca ceremonies are typically longer and more intense than psilocybin journeys, often lasting 6–12 hours. Participants frequently describe experiences of emotional purging, ancestral connection, and profound spiritual revelation. Traditional ayahuasca ceremonies are conducted by a trained curandero who leads participants through icaros — sacred healing songs — throughout the night.

At Lōkahi, our ayahuasca ceremonies honor this tradition fully, incorporating prayer, song, and ceremonial protocol. This medicine is for those who are called. Your facilitator will discuss readiness and contraindications thoroughly before proceeding.

Peyote

A Sacred Cactus Rooted in Prayer, Ceremony & Tradition

The peyote cactus, containing the psychoactive compound mescaline, has been used by Native American tribes for centuries in religious ceremonies and healing rituals. Peyote is considered a sacred medicine by many Native American tribes and is used for spiritual growth, healing, and connecting with the divine.

Peyote is deeply sacred to many Native American peoples, and it is not a medicine we approach lightly. We facilitate peyote ceremonies in deep respect for and collaboration with Native American tradition. Participants report experiences of clarity, vision, and a profound sense of being returned to themselves.

A peyote ceremony typically lasts 8–12 hours and is conducted within a traditional ceremonial framework. This offering is for those who are genuinely called to work with this medicine — and who are prepared to honor the tradition from which it comes.

Psilocybin Mushrooms

Nature's Teacher for Clarity, Healing & Perspective

Indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica have used psilocybin-containing mushrooms for centuries in religious ceremonies to communicate with the spirit world and gain spiritual insight. Psilocybin mushrooms, also known as "magic mushrooms" or "shrooms", contain the psychoactive compound psilocybin.

Psilocybin mushroom ceremonies are the most accessible and widely facilitated sacred medicine experience. A typical ceremony lasts 4–6 hours and is characterized by profound introspection, emotional release, and what many participants describe as a sense of deep connection — to themselves, to others, and to something larger.

The growing body of clinical research on psilocybin supports what Indigenous healers have always known: these mushrooms are medicine. From Johns Hopkins to NYU to Imperial College London, the data consistently shows that psilocybin-assisted experiences produce lasting relief from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction.
